First Lady in Bare Opera's Die Zauberflöte

Soprano Liana Guberman, a native New Yorker. specializes in art song, concert work, and opera. As a voice teacher, she enjoys teaching all genres: pop, musical theater, country, choral, and classical.

As a Resident Artist with Bare Opera, a NYC and world-wide based opera company, Liana sang Rosina and La Contessa in Mozart/Rossini's Figaro x Figaro, Erste Dame in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Fannì in Rossini’s La Cambiale di Matrimonio.

Liana spent two seasons with Palm Beach Opera. As a Benenson Young Artist, she performed Echo in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, Hannah in the world premiere of Ben Moore’s Enemies, A Love Story, and Rosario in Granados’ Goyescas.

Other roles include: Lia in Debussy’s L’enfant prodigue with Bare Opera, Mimì in La Bohème with LoftOpera, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with Purchase Opera, Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro with LoftOpera, and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with Mannes Opera. Liana was a Fellow at Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California where she sang the soprano solo in Mahler’s 4th Symphony and covered Micaëla in Carmen.

A winner of several major vocal competitions, Liana was a winner of the St. Louis district of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She has won scholarships from the Bel Canto Vocal Foundation, 2nd Prize in the Southold Opera Competition at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, and a grant from the Grand Stage International Lieder Competition. Liana was the Fourth Prize winner of the Florida Grand Opera/Young Patronesses of the Opera. She was also an encouragement grant winner of the Opera General Division of the Gerda Lissner Foundation and was a finalist in the Jensen Foundation Competition. She also won grants from both the Lieder/Song and Opera General Divisions of the Gerda Lissner Foundation.

Liana attended the Franz-Schubert-Institut in Baden bei Wien, Austria, where she studied the poetry and performance of Lieder. This experience made her passionate about singing in German and performing Lieder in concert.

A great lover of choral music, she has been performing for over a decade with the Hudson Valley Singers led by Maestro Eugene Sirotkine. With them she has sung Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, an All-Purcell concert, Haydn’s The Creation, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Queen of Sheba and First Woman in Handel’s Solomon, and many others. She has also sung the soprano solo in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Flint Symphony Orchestra.

Liana was featured in a recording of pieces from a chamber oratorio entitled “From Sappho’s Lyre” by new composer Constantine Caravassilis.

She has performed in opera concerts as part of the Saint Simons Island Concert Series on Saint Simons, Georgia (USA).

In December 2022, she sang the soprano solo in Mozart’s Requiem and J.S. Bach’s Magnificat with Eugene Sirotkine and the Hudson Valley Singers.
